The symposium about the magazine mladje grew out of the conviction that cultural-social-political journals played an important role for the development of intellectual life within the fields of art, thinking, and acting. Therefore, it is not only interesting, but also relevant, if not urgent, to gain an insight into the hidden forces behind the nascence, existence, and disappearance of a magazine. This perhaps especially holds true for the literary life beyond the borders of Slovenia/Yugoslavia where the conditions for its flourishing were quite different. Upon the basis of the symposium Most čez Zaliv [Bridge over the Bay], which in the fall of 2021 discussed two Slovenian journals from Trieste, the idea arose to dedicate special attention also to the Austrian Carinthia and the magazine mladje.
In November 2024, 13 authors participated in the event, which was organized in Vienna by the following institutions: The mladje Club, Institute Nova Revija for the Humanities, Slovenian Scientific Institute Klagenfurt, and Robert Musil Institute for Literary Research.
