Within the different fields of personal and communal agency, one is today confronted with the problem of disorientation, a disorientation specifically concerning sense. Because of it, the understanding of human action as well as the comprehension of personality and community have become vague, which contributes to the curtailment of the possibility of inter-human communication At the same time, we are faced with the question what do \u201corientation\u201d and \u201csense\u201d actually mean, insofar as the directedness of sense guides out ethical behaviors and relates to the human condition as such, not only with regard to the present, but also with regard to the past and the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Human agency, encompassing the entire spectrum of life, cognition, creation, belief, and comportment, is steered by values, yet only to the degree they entail sense. The absence of sense leads to the nihilization of the framework of value, which determines our relation to, and with, the world. Although it may seem that the destabilization of norms increases the space of freedom, the ruthless manipulations with the latter, which at the same time take place, in the end bring about the circumstance that there may not be anything humanly essential anymore. The power over human freedom that can likewise take on the pretentious mask of establishing a better, more just world is at its core nihilistic power. Accordingly, human agency and creativity is understood solely in terms of the effectivity of production, while human personality is reduced to certain social role and identification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The interdisciplinary symposium attempted to stimulate a discussion of the emphasized problems with a special attention to the Slovenian social situation, which naturally cannot be excluded from the wider European or global context.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
